Onside Plus is a new Onside initiative that aims to help young people grow in their faith and reach their potential through a combination of social events and youth ministry. This programme provides an opportunity for young people to develop their physical, emotional, and spiritual skills in an encouraging and safe environment. Onside Plus is dedicated to helping young people build a strong connection to God, a sense of belonging, and a sense of purpose. If you are at senior school, based in south London and want to get involved then come along to our next event.
How it works
Each half term we will organise two events - a social event built around sport and a youth ministry event at a local church venue. Our social events include things like going together to a football match, an afternoon at Toca Social, an evening watching the London Lions basketball team or going to see the Guildford Flames ice hockey team. Our youth ministry events differ each month and include hearing from guest speakers from the world of professional sport who you'll get a chance to meet and have a chat to, a worship evening or a sports themed Bible study led by one of our leaders.
Your event, your choice
Part of how Onside Plus works is that it is led by the people who come along. You have an input into what happens each month. Want the social event to be an evening at The Oval watching Surrey? Then make the suggestion and let's make it happen!
What's on?
18th November - Our opening youth event of the season is an evening with Phil Kane. Phil is from Belfast and will be speaking about his life growing up on the loyalist Shankill Road, his summers spent rioting on the streets, how an IRA bullet changed the course of his life and how he now uses football as a tool for peace and reconcilliation. Our hosts for the event will be the brilliant Sam and Beca, pizza and soft drinks will be available on the night and doors open at 7pm. The venue is Carshalton Beeches Baptist Church and if you would like to come along please book a free ticket by clicking here.
Who can come along and how much does it cost?
Onside Plus is open to everyone but is aimed primarily at young people aged 12 - 21 years old. Youth ministry events are held around the Carshalton area and are free of charge. For social events (for example, attending a basketball game) we will ask each person to cover their event ticket price and transport cost (if you have a Zip Card it should be free) but if you genuinely cannot afford to pay then please come and speak to us. Onside's philosophy is that no-one should ever miss out because of financial constraints and we will find a solution.
What makes Onside Plus different from other Christian youth events?
The main difference is that at Onside Plus we usually have a sporting theme running through everything we do. All of our events are open to to anyone to attend but we want to provide a space where young people who love God but also love football, or cricket, or netball, or athletics, or any other sport you can imagine, can come along and feel at home.
