Our Team

Onside Soccer employs part time staff and volunteers in various parts of the world and they all play a vital role in making our projects work.  Please hover over the photos below to find out more about our team.


Rev. Rob Powell is Team Rector at St. James Church, Streatham and has been in ministry for over 20 years after graduating from Trinity College Bristol with a BA (Hons) in Theology. Apart from football Rob is a huge Rugby League fan and supports St Helens.

Richard Beales

U.K. Staff

Paul is the founder of Onside Soccer and coaches at the Carshalton project. He has set up soccer academies in India and Uganda and is also Managing Director of  the Sir Stanley Matthews Coaching Foundation. Paul supports Glasgow Rangers.

A student at Glenthorne High, Sam is one of our longest serving coaches.  Manchester United supporting Sam works at our Carshalton project and has also coached in Ireland.

One of our longest serving coaches, Tom is currently studying at the University of Chichester. A keen sportsman, Tom plays tennis and table tennis to a high standard and supports Arsenal F.C.

Liverpool supporting Yu Sheng is a hugely popular member of the team at our Carshalton project. Specialising in coaching younger children, Yu Sheng is married to Winnie and has one son called Wesley.

Jo is a sports all-rounder.  As well as coaching football she also runs competitively and swims, training 5-6 times a week. She is a physiotherapist working in paediatrics and has a high level of expertise in the development of childhood motor skills.

After playing senior football for a number of non-league sides, age has adjudged that he should hang up his boots and try coaching instead. A sales manager by day, Dan also enjoys playing golf and tennis. Dan also has a son – Jonah - who attends the Onside coaching sessions.

Chelsea supporting Steve has been with Onside for a number of years, fulfilling a number of roles!  He is currently manager of the Onside Eagles.  A keen footballer, Morden resident Steve has a son and a daughter and one grandchild.

India Staff

Churchill looks after all of our operations in India and takes care of our volunteers when they visit Chennai.  He is the founder of the Dr John Joseph Foundation and is a member of the board of Directors for the International YMCA. He enjoys cricket and tennis.

Our Head Coach in Chennai is football freestyler Masthan Khan. Masthan joined the team in 2017 and is also currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Physical Education. He recently represented Reebok in their national TV campaign.

Uganda Staff

Our Head Coach in Uganda, Moses is a graduate of the Makerere University and is also founder of the Abato Foundation, an organisation founded to raise orphaned children in northern Uganda.  He lives in Mpigi in central Uganda.

Moses Kalanzi

Kenny joined our team in 2014 and looks after all of our work in Kampala. Besides coaching he helps with IT support at the Uganda office and is set to graduate with a degree in I.T. from St Lawrence University. he leads worship at his local church.

Gambia Staff

Semi-professional player Solomon currently plays for Hawks FC in the Gambian First Division. Previously played for Gamtel FC and is the holder of five FA Cup winners medals as well as being on the winning side in four Gambian Super Cup Finals.

Solomon Jarju 

Coach Melvin works with Coach Solomon in our Gambian project and, like Solomon, he also supports Arsenal as well as Barcelona.  Melvin enjoys playing football,beach football, computer games and cards.
